Frequently Asked Questions:

Q:    What is a paver?

A:    Pavers are landscape elements laid on flat surfaces, most often made of stone or stone-derived materials.  Pavers are installed over a sand and/or crushed limestone base.  They are often laid out in interlocking patterns, sometimes randomly to create an artistic effect.  They are known to have a functional values as well as an aesthetic appeal, so you can add them as a finishing touch to complete your overall landscape projects.

Q:
    What is the base material?

A:    The base material is made of crushed paver stone and sand.  The crushed stones have varying sized particles and sharp edges to enable better compaction.

Q:    Are pavers a good choice to be used around pools?

A:     Yes.  Pavers are very appropriate for around pool areas as they provide a slip-resistant surface, making it a much safer environment.  The moisture and water is soaked up by the sand in the joints, rather than being left to create a slippery surface.  Because pavers dissipate heat more efficiently than concrete, they provide a cooler surface to walk on.

Q:    Can pavers be installed over existing concrete?

A:    Yes, but you may need to install a step if the pavers are lying on top of the concrete.  It may be better to remove the existing concrete before installation.  Your installer will be able to assist you in all your options.

Q:    What is the life-expectancy of pavers?

A:    Pavers are very durable.  But if they are damaged, our manufacturer offers a no-cost warranty for 20 years, covering structural defects and material replacement (labor not included).  However, pavers are easily removed and replaced so you can be assured of always having a beautiful and functional structure.

Q:    Will pavers shift or move over time?

A:    To ensure that your pavers do not move or shift, your installer will secure the edge of your project with the proper edge restraint, usually made of concrete in hotter regions of the country.

Q:    Why is paving brick a better choice than to lay conventional brick?

A:    Interlocking concrete paving stones represent a system wherein each paver is set in sand.  This makes the system somewhat flexible so it will not crack when the underlying earth shifts nor with any changes in temperature.  Conventional bricks are usually set in mortar thus making them very inflexible and proned to cracking.

Q:    What costs more: pavers or brick?

A:    Conventional brick is almost always more costly than pavers.  Depending on what type of brick you install, it could cost as much as twice that of pavers.

Q:    Is sealing pavers after installation recommended?

A:    Sealing your pavers is not necessary, it is however recommended.  Sealed pavers are much easier to clean and may prevent staining.  Also, sealing will help maintain and enhance your brightly colored pavers.  In addition, sealing will prevent the growth of weeds in between your joints.
